Accelerating Development: 14 Key Projects Launched at Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao
On May 20, 2024, a groundbreaking ceremony for 14 key projects was held at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter referred to as “the GMTCM Park”). This event marks a significant milestone in the development of the GMTCM Park, highlighting substantial advancements in investment promotion and operational expansion.
Prominent figures in attendance included Mr. Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and Executive Committee Director of the Guangdong-Macao InDepth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin; Mr. Wang Sidong, Chairman of China Taiping Insurance Group;
Mr. Li Kedong, Deputy General Manager of China Taiping Insurance Group; and Mr. Nie Xinping, Director of the Guangdong provincial government’s Hengqin office and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Also present were representatives from various departments of the Macao SAR government, the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone, local enterprises providing supporting services, such as the Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau, alongside representatives from the 14 participating enterprises, all of whom witnessed the event.
Following the ceremony, attending officials and enterprise representatives engaged in discussions to strategize the overall development of the GMTCM Park and future construction plans.
United Vision, Focused Implementation – Launching 14 Key Projects
The commencement of the 14 key projects includes Taiping Life's Hengqin Global Meeting Hall, Meinian Digital Intelligence Traditional Chinese Medicine Medical Service Center, Pien Tze Huang TCM Intangible Cultural Heritage Comprehensive Experience Hall, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Comprehensive Experience Hall, Dong'e Ejiao Nourishing Life Hall, Honest Hospital, Yuxin Beilong, Tianrun Medical, Deya Medical, Qimei Medical, Sciarray Biologics, Gui Lu Bao Cultural Experience Comprehensive Hall, Freely Wellness Precision Health Management Center, and Usleep Medical Center. These initiatives encompass a wide range of domains, including innovative medical devices and pharmaceutical research and development (R&D), medical cosmetology, the preservation and modernization of renowned traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) brands, premium health care services, insurance-driven customer engagement, and immersive cultural experiences related to TCM.
Hengqin-Macao Collaboration and Taiping’s Role in GMTCM Park Development
During the subsequent discussion, leaders and business representatives exchanged insights on fostering high-quality development of the GMTCM Park and making a case for advancing the Hengqin-Macao TCM and broader healthcare industries. These efforts align with the goal of promoting Macao’s moderately diversified economic growth.
Chairman Wu Song of the GMTCM Park provided an update on the overall progress. Representatives from the 14 groundbreaking enterprises reaffirmed their commitment to adhering to the policies set forth by the Macao SAR government and the Hengqin executive committee. They emphasized their dedication to expediting project timelines, with construction commencement planned within the month and operations anticipated to begin in September 2024.
Deputy Director Nie Xinping highlighted the crucial role of the GMTCM Park in Macao’s industrial diversification strategy, emphasizing the strategic opportunities it currently presents. He underscored the significance of the projects launched in fostering the expansion of both the GMTCM Park and the broader healthcare sector within the cooperation zone. The executive committee will continue to enhance the efficiency of the GMTCM Park by leveraging policy support, project facilitation, and resource coordination to ensure the enterprises receive tailored assistance, thereby fostering a conducive work and living environment in Hengqin.
Secretary Lei Wai Nong acknowledged the foundational role of the GMTCM Park as a medical and healthcare hub, which has been heavily supported by the Macao SAR government. With sustained backing from the central government and years of dedicated development, the GMTCM Park has evolved into a well-established, comprehensive hub for the healthcare industry in Hengqin. It remains integral to Macao’s broader strategy of advancing its TCM industry. The SAR along with the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin will continue to facilitate a high-quality business environment to support the growth of the GMTCM Park and enhance its role as a premier platform for Macao's TCM and healthcare industries.
Chairman Wang Sidong reaffirmed China Taiping’s long-standing commitment to Macao which spans over seven decades. He emphasized the responsibility of the organization in supporting the region’s development and its enthusiasm for collaborating with high-caliber medical and healthcare enterprises within the GMTCM Park. Furthermore, he expressed China Taiping’s willingness to share financial and insurance resources, as well as customer networks, to enhance the success of the GMTCM Park. Additionally, he called upon the management team of the GMTCM Park to cultivate a world-class business environment, attract preferential policies, expand customer engagement, and address practical challenges. These collective efforts will drive the accelerated development of the GMTCM Park.
Attendees unanimously recognized the groundbreaking ceremony as a pivotal milestone in the evolution of the GMTCM Park. This event marks the beginning of an accelerated development phase, reinforcing confidence and collective momentum. Moving forward, the GMTCM Park aims to sustain this progress, solidify its position as a leader in the Hengqin-Macao TCM and health industries and achieve meaningful contributions to the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China and the third anniversary of the establishment of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
